The Palo Alto Art Center, the Museum of Craft and Design and the Longmore Institute on Disability present Cut your fashion, an exciting MakeArt Lab virtual collaboration, in collaboration with The art of disability culture and Raw Mode exhibitions. Join us for this free DIY and custom clothing modification workshop, led by Rebirth Garments founder Sky Cubacub (They / Them / Xe / Xem / Xyr), using items found in your own closet!
Sky Cubacub, an artist of The art of disability culture, will examine how artists from both exhibitions creatively integrate accessibility into the clothing design process and discuss the broader importance of distorted fashion – a sartorial movement aimed at those with gender, sexuality, ability mental and / or physical do not generally correspond to what the normative society deems acceptable. Then you’ll take a piece of clothing that hasn’t inspired you in a while and let Sky give you some ideas on how to breathe new life into your old clothes!
