Anime Studio SHAFT sets up new all-digital production house in Shizuoka with local talent

SHAFT, the anime studio known for producing hits such as the Monogatari series, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Mars is coming like a lion and many others, has announcement today that they are setting up a new animation production in Aoi Ward, Shizuoka. The new anime studio will be completely digital using a myriad of software, including the introduction of Toon Boom Harmony into the studio pipeline.

Hiring and training local talent, SHAFT will transition to a “hybrid” animation model, establishing a team that can work in both a traditional and CG animation space. The new SHAFT.aoi Shizuoka Studio team will encompass most of the production process, from animation to finishing work.

It has not yet been confirmed whether SHAFT.aoi Shizuoka Studio will work on its own projects or whether it will work as an outsourcing studio to SHAFT’s main studio in Tokyo’s Suginami district or whether the studio will perform its own outsourcing work to other animation studios. Time will tell us!
