Capital One, the Richmond area’s largest employer, is cutting dozens of jobs managed from its massive West Creek campus in Goochland County.

The 174 jobs cut are remote workers, leaving the exact impact on the Richmond area uncertain.

The company, according to a WARN law notice, said the affected employees were all working from their homes in Virginia, although it did not specify their approximate location.

The company said these workers are not assigned to a specific Capital One physical office location, but “receive their work assignments from Capital One’s West Creek facility.”

He stressed that there was no direct impact on its West Creek operations, where a large portion of its 13,000 local employees are typically based outside of pandemic times.

“The West Creek facility is not closing and this action does not involve any job cuts for employees in the West Creek office,” the company said in a letter submitted with its WARN notice.

Capital One said the positions were cut following the complete shutdown of its “outbound card customer recoveries” business unit. The layoffs are scheduled to take place on September 7. Affected employees were notified on June 30.

The company did not respond to requests for further information on Monday afternoon.

He indicated in the WARN notice that the affected employees are eligible for severance pay, professional reclassification assistance, career development support and the possibility of applying for other positions within the company. business.

The layoffs follow Capital One’s announcement last month that it would permanently adopt a “flexible hybrid model” that allows employees to work both in the office and virtually, following trends adopted during the pandemic.

When reopening its offices to its 52,000 employees as scheduled on September 7, the company said Mondays and Fridays would be flexible days when employees can work wherever they want.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays will be office days.

The company said that choosing to come to the office on these days would be strongly encouraged but not mandatory and that it would not require employees to work a certain number of days in the office.
