Dayton plant nearly doubles workforce, company says growth will continue


KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WATE) – A company has nearly doubled its workforce at its Rhea County plant in the past year. Nokian Tires says the hiring is just the start of their investment in Dayton.

The company attributes its growth from 175 team members to 325 employees to an aggressive hiring drive during the first half of the year. Over the next few years, Nokian Tires plans to hire more than 100 workers while increasing the factory’s production volume.

“The Dayton plant is an important part of our business growth plan, and our people are the most important part of our plant,” said David Korda, operations manager for the Dayton plant. “We are delighted to be able to expand our team this year while deepening our partnerships in the community. “

The company has also invested in community activities such as scholarships for Rhea County students, the Nokian Tires Summer Nights downtown concert series, the platinum sponsorship of the Tennessee Strawberry Festival, and tens of thousands of dollars in donations. to non-profit organizations based in Rhea County. Nokian Tires has also worked with Rhea County High School, Chattanooga State and Cleveland State Community Colleges to provide opportunities for students in the area.

“While we are happy with our growth in 2021, this is just the start of our journey here in Dayton,” Korda said. “We look forward to expanding our team and stepping up our efforts to serve the community over the coming year. “

The Dayton plant has increased production so much that Nokian Tires plans to manufacture up to four million tires per year at full capacity.
