In short: EA’s flagship FPS franchise has always been Battlefield, but it looks like the publisher wants to round out their shooters roster with something new. To bring this mysterious project (s) to life, EA has enlisted former Halo Creative Director and franchise co-creator Marcus Lehto to lead a new studio that does not yet have a name.
The studio will be built in Seattle and will specialize in “first person games”. It does not explicitly mean the first person shooters, but it’s hard to think of another reason for EA to sue Lehto – that’s, after all, where its expertise lies. If they were trying to create a Skyrim competitor, they had better recruit talent from former Bethesda or Obsidian employees.
As for Lehto’s story in particular, as we noted a moment ago, he was part of the Halo team when the first title, Halo: Combat Evolved, first saw the light of day. He started out as a designer and worked his way up the ranks at Bungie. He helped release almost every Halo title except 4 and 5, which were the work of 343.

Lehto confirmed the news himself in a tweet on Wednesday. “Hello everyone, I am very happy to announce that I have joined @EA as Game Director, building a new studio in the Seattle area working on first person games,” he said. announcement. “I can’t wait to share more about what we create! “
We are sure that Lehto is not the only one not to wait. It’s been a while since EA launched a new first-person franchise, and there are undoubtedly millions of people who will happily take a chance.
Of course, we know next to nothing about the series (Lehto mentions “games”) yet. If this is a shooter, will it be single player or multiplayer? If it’s multiplayer, will it be competitive or co-op? And if it’s not a shooter, what could it be? We don’t know, but we can’t wait to find out.
