FEAR FACTORY will start recording a new album in early 2023

In a new interview with a Sonic Perspectives contributor Rodrigo Altaf, THE FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares confirmed that he and his comrades have started work on the 2021 follow-up “Continuum of Aggression” album. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “We started pre-production about a week ago. So right now we’re just doing demos. And then we’ll probably record early next year. But then I have to go in tour… We have to go there on tour from the end of February, and we are going to be on tour at least until June, so we can probably finish production until July, then soon after, hopefully the record will come out as quickly as possible.

Cazares also addressed the fact that THE FEAR FACTORYThe upcoming album will be the band’s first to feature the band’s new vocalist, whose identity has yet to be revealed.

“You want to take your time [working with the new singer]“, he explained. “You want to make sure you find someone who is the best fit for the job. This is not new to me; I started a lot of other bands with other singers, and I had to replace singers before. But not in a group like THE FEAR FACTORY. So, yes, it’s definitely very difficult, and I’m definitely up for the challenge. I understand there’s probably going to be some kind of backlash, but there’s a backlash with everything. So, yes, I’m up for the challenge. I don’t intend to change anything. I’ll pretty much keep what THE FEAR FACTORY is known for and trying to honor the legacy of who we are.”

When asked if musical chemistry, stage presence, and personality were all factors in her decision when selecting the new vocalist for THE FEAR FACTORY, dinosaur said: “All of the above, especially when you’re working with people you don’t know. Especially someone like the singer, who I don’t know very well. When I hired him, I didn’t know him so well. Of course, we spent time together and we got to know each other. You want to make sure that you don’t make a bad decision, because it’s going to be something that’s going to last a while. Besides, the “Relationships are relationships. You can’t always control how things are going to turn out. You do your best. And you put your right foot forward and keep going.”

Cazares also confirmed that THE FEAR FACTORY is currently “unlabeled” after working with Nuclear explosion for the band’s last two albums. “We don’t have a record company. THE FEAR FACTORY doesn’t have a new record company at the moment,” he said. “We haven’t signed any new contracts. And we are also in the process of negotiating and evaluating different offers that we have. It’s something else too. I hadn’t realized that this year our recording contract expired with Nuclear explosion. But they still have the obligation to promote this record, ‘Recoded’ [the recently released collection of remixes of the songs from ‘Aggression Continuum’]. But now, moving forward, we’re exploring our options and it’s looking really good. So hopefully we’ll make some sort of deal and get that music to you as soon as possible.”

In September, Cazares Told “The Jasta Show” this THE FEAR FACTORY fans will have to wait a few more months to find out the identity of his band’s new lead singer.

THE FEAR FACTORY the singer and the music will come just before the [group’s North American] tour with STATIC-X“, he said. “End of February is the first show, so right before, we will release the single and the singer. And then boom – straight on the road.”

According dinosaurhe worked with the new THE FEAR FACTORY singer for a year. “It’s just a lot of development,” he said. “You know, THE FEAR FACTORY is valuable to a lot of people, and so I have to make sure it’s fair.

“I wanted to release a few tracks a while ago with the singer, but I had nothing behind it — no touring or anything — so the hype was going to die down quickly,” he explained. “So I want to do it around a tour; that way you have something to work with. And I just didn’t want to get his name out too fast, because no one will care by the time I’ll release a track a year later. So I want it all to be done together.”

Last February, the former NIGHTRAGE singer Antony Hämäläinenwho unsuccessfully auditioned for the singer spot in THE FEAR FACTORYclaimed in an interview that the new FF the leader is “a person from Italy”.

In April, dinosaur Told “The Garza Podcast” that the new THE FEAR FACTORY The singer is emotionally ready to handle the inevitable rejection from some fans he will receive once his identity is revealed. “I think they are ready,” he said. “When it comes to talent, they are very ready. But “ready to tour” is completely different. Hopefully… Well, the person we have has toured, but not like we do. For example, a full US tour might be four to six weeks, then you fly to Europe and do another four to five weeks, come back to the US, do another tour, then you go to South America and do a few more weeks there, then you go to Australia and do a few more weeks there, then plan for next year. I think one of the other things as well is that when that person is announced, they have to be able to handle all the criticism. This is going to be the hardest part. ‘Well, it didn’t look like Burt [former singer Burton C. Bell].’ Well, of course not. I want this person… They really look like Burt – they can handle all the old stuff like Burt — but moving forward, I would like them to have their own identity. We will always have the formula of what makes THE FEAR FACTORY – of course – but I want that person to have their own identity as well.”

In a hurry of what happened to cause Burton leave THE FEAR FACTORY, dinosaur said: “Good question. I don’t know. I think he just lost interest in… I can only guess, because we had a very heavy lawsuit for four years, and it crippled us financially – personally too – and I just think he’s lost interest. I think maybe everything we’ve been through in THE FEAR FACTORY was just, like… He’s one of those guys, ‘Fuck it. I’m outside. I stop. Shit. He doesn’t come across as a fighter – as someone who’s going to be, like, ‘Fuck it. We’ve been there. Let’s review and just move on. I mean, I left the door open for him for a while to get him back in the band, but he almost told me to fuck me, Raymond [Herrera, former FEAR FACTORY drummer] and Christian [Olde Wolbers, former FEAR FACTORY bassist] – Everybody. Fuck everyone.

“I’m not going to push it” dinosaur added. “I’m not going to push him or anything like that. Fans ask me all the time, ‘Hey, call him. Just call him.’ Well, if you saw what he said when he left, he’s not exactly a phone call away… He left pretty bitter, and that’s about where… Looks like he is having a good time being free someone to come back or [any] stuff like that.

“Some people want change in their life, but sometimes the fans just can’t accept it. The fans are like, ‘He was the singer for 30 years. Come back.’ It was his decision. No one pushed him out, no one forced him to leave – none of that. It was his decision.

Asked about his previous comment that he was open to hiring a singer for THE FEAR FACTORY, dinosaur Told TV Bucket List: “It was true. I auditioned a few women, yes. But it didn’t work out – not because they were women or anything like that. Because I wanted to choose the one who was the best for the post, and it turned out to be a guy.”

dinosaur also addressed his statement from last year that he wanted to give an ‘unknown guy a chance’ to front THE FEAR FACTORY. He said, “Well, it wasn’t like I was only looking for someone no one knew. I was looking for all different [types of singers]. Of course, if the guy turned out to be, or the girl turned out to be, somebody nobody knew and I gave them that chance, yeah, great. I was open to anything, that’s what I say. Male, female, whatever, known, unknown – I was open to it all.”

In September 2020, Bell released a statement officially announcing his departure from THE FEAR FACTORYsaying he “can’t line up” with someone he doesn’t trust or respect.

Bellis the output of THE FEAR FACTORY came more than two weeks later Cazares launched a GoFundMe campaign to help him with the production costs associated with the release of THE FEAR FACTORYthe latest LP from.

Bell later said Kerrang! magazine he broke up with THE FEAR FACTORY was a long time coming. “It’s been in my head for a while,” he said. “These lawsuits [over the rights to the FEAR FACTORY name] just emptied me. The egos. Greed. Not just class members, but the attorneys involved. I just lost my love for it.

“With THE FEAR FACTORY, it was constantly, like, ‘What?!’ You can’t take a lot. I felt like 30 years was a good race. These albums that I ended up with THE FEAR FACTORY will always be there. I will always be part of that. I just felt it was time to move on.”

In October 2020, dinosaur released a statement in which he said the door for Burton come back to THE FEAR FACTORY would not “remain open forever”. The guitarist also revealed that Burton “lost his legal rights” on the THE FEAR FACTORY name “after a long legal battle” with Herrera and Old Wolbers. “I had the opportunity to do something good, and I felt that getting the full name was the right thing for both of us, so after almost four years, we can continue as THE FEAR FACTORYto make more records and tour,” he said. “That’s why it’s sad to hear that he’s decided to quit and, in my opinion, for all the issues he’s had , it looks like it could have been solved.”

“Continuum of Aggression” was released in June 2021 via Nuclear Explosion Records. The LP, which was recorded mostly in 2017, includes Cazares and Bell alongside the drummer mike heller.
