Torino, October 13 2022. IVECO BUS, a brand of the Iveco NV Group (MI: IVG), has won the coveted ‘Sustainable Bus of the Year’ award, in the intercity category, for its CROSSWAY Low Entry HYBRID Natural Gas bus, compatible with biomethane. This is the third such title won by IVECO BUS and follows the 2018 award for its Low Entry CROSSWAY version and the 2020 title for the natural gas powered CROSSWAY.
The jury for the prize is made up of seven representatives of the main European publications in the sector. When awarding the title, jurors weighed factors such as safety, comfort, noise levels, recyclability of components and the manufacturer’s commitment to sustainability as well as the ability to establish an image of the vehicle with the public it serves.
The CROSSWAY Low Entry HYBRID Natural Gas bus is an alternative for Regions, Departments and Cities wishing to offer transport solutions that are fully compatible with energy transition projects. It offers up to 15% fuel savings compared to the diesel variant and a reduction in CO emissions2 up to 82% emissions with renewable fuels.
In addition, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding last July, IVECO BUS today launches its collaboration with public transport technology company Via, initially offering IVECO BUS customers in Italy the possibility, from the beginning of 2023, to purchase tailor-made software for over-demanding transport solutions through its dealer network.
Both partners will continue to explore the possibility of developing easy-to-deploy solutions for authorities and public transport operators – from on-demand transport to autonomous public transport powered by alternative energies. On-demand autonomous shuttle opportunities are also being evaluated.
“This third prize reaffirms IVECO BUS’ position as European leader in the interurban segment and confirms the Iveco Group’s commitment to sustainable mobility. With the first result of the partnership with Via, they prove that IVECO BUS is relentlessly pursuing the evolution of a traditional activity towards a future strongly marked by the trends that are revolutionizing the passenger transport sector, such as the energy transition and new business models,” said Domenico Nucera, President of the Bus Business Unit of the Iveco Group.
