Workshop: Violin tunes for cellos! With Elsie Gawler

In this workshop, we will delve into the rich realm of traditional cello/cello music. We will learn by ear a melody suitable for the cello, then we will discuss why and how the cello can be such a unique and wonderful instrument in the world of violin. We will discuss the playing of melody, harmonies, chords and rhythm. All levels and all ages welcome!

Elsie Gawler is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist steeped in traditional Maine folk music and culture. With his family, the Gawler Family Group, she has performed throughout the state and beyond, sharing traditional fiddle tunes, songs and original works since she was 6 years old. From this foundation, she branched out and released her first solo album, Sweet As Honey. The album is a collection of 9 original songs inspired by the sacred bond with the land and the community. While continuing to perform regularly with The Gawler Family Band, his other projects include the duo Elsie and Ethan, and The Gawler Sisters trio. She is also a longtime member of the group Child’s play.
