Hyderabad: Although the Center ignored its promise to set up a rail coach factory in Kazipet under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, Telangana will soon have one of the largest private rail coach factories in India. . The coach factory established by Medha Group at Kondakal in Rangareddy district is ready for inauguration soon.
Established with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore by Medha Servo Drives, the coach factory will manufacture coaches, locomotives, intercity trains, metros and monorails. The facility has an annual manufacturing capacity of 500 cars of various types and 50 locomotives. It will also bring 2,200 jobs including 1,000 direct and 1,200 indirect to the territory.

On Sunday, Industry Minister KT Rama Rao announced that Medha Group is set to inaugurate one of the country’s largest private rail coach factories in Kondakal soon. “Proud that Telangana will be manufacturing and shipping coaches soon. My sincere thanks to Yugandhar Reddy Garu and his capable team for making this possible (sic),” he tweeted.
The state government had repeatedly requested the Center to honor promises made under the PA Reorganization Act and establish the bus factory in Kazipet. He even allocated 60 acres of land and also released Rs 40 crore towards his component for this purpose. But then Railway Minister Manoj Singh said in March 2016 that there was no possibility of establishing a coach factory in Telangana. However, the Center readily agreed to establish one in Latur in Maharashtra, which was proposed in 2018, four years after the initial proposal for a coach factory in Telangana.
