Mass vaccination must be supplemented with protocols appropriate to Covid during the holiday season, said Lav Agarwal, co-secretary of the Ministry of Health.
He made the remarks during an interactive session for representatives of All India Radio, private FMs and community radio stations held on Friday on the need to raise awareness of the importance of following appropriate Covid behavior during the next festival season.
Speaking on the importance of the media in delivering public service announcements, he said India had successfully controlled Covid-19 cases in record time by stepping up its treatment and vaccination strategy.
The Union Department of Health and Family Welfare, in partnership with UNICEF, hosted the session with radio stations to raise awareness of the importance of following appropriate Covid behavior during the festivities.
The session was attended by around 150 radio representatives involved in programming and presenting radio programs from all over India.
Addressing the session, Agrawal warned that although Covid-19 cases are declining across India, the virus is still there and any complacency at this point may result in a further increase.
“The country will soon reach a historic landmark of 100 crore in vaccination. With victory over the virus in sight, we cannot let this hard-won victory slip away from us due to Covid fatigue. So I urge people don’t let their keep you up during the next holiday season, ”Agarwal said.
He asked all attendees to amplify public service announcements such as the importance of both vaccine doses and the need to follow Covid protocols at festivals in the country’s collective fight against the virus.
