On Friday morning, the clouds parted and the sun was shining as families flocked to the Sam Bridge Nursery and Greenhouses on North Street, just in time for Santa’s arrival for the 13th Annual Greenwich Reindeer Festival and the workshop of Santa Claus.
Families cheered on Friday as Santa arrived in a Mercedes-Benz convertible from Greenwich, driven by Mary Ann Grabavoy Heaven.
The event was presented by Jenny Allen of Compass. The Reindeer Festival and Santa’s Workshop support Kids In Crisis – some of all photos taken with Santa will benefit this organization.
Hospital President Diane Kelly said the mural will be proudly displayed at Greenwich Hospital.
âWe did it with you, and we did it for you,â she said. âWe continue to feel the embrace of our community – the cards, letters, placards, drive-through parades, hot meals, sweet treats and many incredible gestures of solidarity and kindness from our community. It really supports people in health care. “
Ms Kelly said she liked to hear residents say her children were all born at Greenwich Hospital.
Following remarks, a mural honoring Greenwich Hospital healthcare and frontline workers who continue to work tirelessly during the Covid-19 pandemic has been unveiled.
The mural, created by artist Rick Garcia, was sponsored by Tiffany Benincasa of the C Parker Gallery on Greenwich Avenue. The mural has space for community members to share messages of gratitude.
The first to sign was Santa Claus, followed by Greenwich Hospital President Ms Kelly and Ms Benincasa from the C Parker Gallery.
Ms Benincasa introduced Mr Garcia, saying he flew north from Key Largo, Florida for the unveiling.
âWe are grateful for the opportunity to show our appreciation for Greenwich Hospital and all they do for the community. I was one of the parents to tell Diane (Kelly) that my three children were born at Greenwich Hospital.
âAnd unfortunately with three kids we spend a lot of time there as they grow up,â Benincasa joked. âIt’s a great resource for the community. They have been there day in and day out, not only during our 20 years in Greenwich, but during the pandemic they have been tireless, they have never wavered and they have always been there for all of us. “
